A beautiful article published today in Roznama Dunya (below) describing an incident whereby Hazrat Salman Farsi (RA) explains where tribalism, family pride, sectarianism etc stand in Islam; and Prophet Muhammad (SAW) endorses it.
“Few new Muslims arrive from southern Arabia to meet Prophet Muhammad (SAW). They start boasting about their family & tribe. They then enquire Hazrat Salman Farsi, which tribe are you from?
Hazrat Salman Farsi RA responds:
I, Salman is one of Allah’s creation. I was lost but Allah Ta’ala guided me through Muhammad (SAW). I was slave but Allah Ta’ala liberated me through Muhammad (SAW).
Prophet (SAW) smiled and exclaimed:
You were born out of one man & woman. You were divided into nations and tribes so that you could identify each other. But Allah loves the one among you who is more Pious (Taqwa – fear of Allah). [lose translation of Surah Al Hujrat]
Then Prophet said, no one would be better Muslim than you less he has more Taqwa than you. Please remember Salman RA was a Persian, without Islam he would have had no rank among Arabs there in Arabia. But He (RA) was granted much more respect than many Arabs; only because He was a better Muslim.
Today, we are fighting among us based on tribes, sects, lineage, etc etc. This is such a shame for us Muslims! We are one nation, have one faith but we have forgotten it. As a result we are divided into 50+ countries and then 100s of sects, tribes & groups within each country.
Indeed solution is to move back to same system sent by Allah Ta’ala in the form Khilafat-e-Rashida so we become one nation.
